Sioux Falls, SD

About the City

The most populous city in all of the Dakotas, Sioux Falls has been home to people for thousands of years. Archaeological evidence shows indigenous peoples have been gathering in Sioux Falls since at least 1300 AD, and burial mounds in the city have been carbon dated to over 1,600 years old. The majestic Big Sioux River cutting through Sioux Falls has always attracted visitors, and now the city excels as a regional center for health care and financial companies.

Though the city itself is old, Sioux Falls’ craft beer industry is incredibly young. All but one of the city’s breweries have opened in the past decade. New, local breweries utilize South Dakota’s agricultural heritage to make beer with locally grown hops and grains, with some brewers opting to even make beer with captured native yeast. Sioux Falls’ fledgling beer scene is now a playground for inventive brewers looking to make their mark on the local beer community.
